PRESENTS
Gordon Haller-First Ever Ironman Hawaii Winner
The very first Ironman Triathlon took place in Hawaii in 1978.
Gordon Haller won that event in a time of 11:46, becoming the first ever Ironman World Champion, and the Bentonville Half Marathon is proud to announce that Gordon will be speaking at our Pasta Party, as well as being present at the Timex booth at the Expo, from 1-3 PM.
Haller did not even have a driver’s license in 1978, at the age of 27, doing all of his commuting and errands in Oahu on foot or bike. He returned in 1979 to go 10:58, and has done the race a few times since. Gordon will have with him some memorabilia from the original Ironman race, including the shoes he wore during the race.
